Family: In the Chinese family the father was the ruler of the house. His wife and children had to obey him in all things. The wife normally stayed home to look after the house and her children. The parents decided the children’s marriage partners and the children’s choice made little impact to the parent’s decision.
Women: Women’s life in ancient china was very difficult and they weretreated very disrespectfully during their lives. The men were considered to be better over women and even sometimes when a baby girl was born they would put her outside to die if they weren’t satisfied with her. Women also had no say in who they marry.
Farmers: farmers were a part of the peasant class and they were the 2nd most respected in the Han dynasty. Most people were farmers and they grew rice in southern China and they grew millet and wheat in northern China. Farmers had very difficult hard-working lives but they were respected for the food they grew and harvested.
Life in the city: The people who lived in the city worked a range of jobs including merchants, craftsmen, government officials, and scholars. In ancient china, several cities population grew very large with some having hundreds of thousands of people.
Working for the government: farmers worked for the government especially and had to for about one month each year. They either served in the military or worked on construction projects like building canals and city halls. The farmers also had to pay a tax the for giving the government a percentage of their crops.
